The Second Lambretta
Just because my entire transportation budget was parked behind a garage, waiting for an
engine didn't mean that there was no need to get to
work. The easy way turned out to be the train, and I enjoyed the train trip. What
I didn't enjoy was a half-hour walk to catch the 07:04 at Stafford, followed by
a half-hour bicycle ride through Birmingham to the hospital where I worked.
The answer was another Lambretta. This time it was a 1957 150cc, also bought for
£5. Another good transportation buy, here -- it got me to work every day for six
weeks, and got me around everywhere else with almost zero maintenance.
There are two ways of looking at a vehicle like this: It's either crude and goes
round corners like a four-poster bed, or it's uncomplicated and requires elementary
care in handling. I chose the latter, and thoroughly enjoyed both my Lambrettas.
I had other motor cycles, but these were my favorites.
